#1244 - Elliott Erwitt

“In general I don’t think too much. I certainly don’t use those funny words museum people and art critics like”

~ Elliott Erwitt
(1928 - 2023)

Elliott was the least pretentious person I have ever encountered in the so called “art world”. He just did his thing his whole life, true only to himself. He never courted “fame” or “critical approval. Of course that came to him without him ever seeking it.

This is one of his “human” masterpieces. The ambiguity in this situation is evidence of his enormous talent and perception. No one knows for sure the little human drama playing out here. Was there a prior relationship between the new bride and this irascible looking chap? I know Elliott used to sometimes give a print of this image as an anniversary gift to special friends. The perfect gift to celebrate the occasion right?

Enjoy!
