“A picture is like a prayer”

~ Harry Callahan
(1912-1999)

Harry met Eleanor when they were both working at Chrysler in Detroit, she as a secretary, he as a shipping clerk. Meeting Ansel Adams for the first time who came to speak to a Camera Club Harry was a member of completely changed his life. With the support of his now wife Eleanor he left his secure job to pursue the life and dreams of an artist. She was the breadwinner for many hard years until he managed to establish his credibility in the incredibly competitive arena he aspired to. She was indeed his model and muse and the body of work that they collaborated over many years is on a par with O’Keefe and Stieglitz and Charis and Edward Weston. This image is one of his most tender and special as a testament to their love.
