#880 - Michael Kenna

“I like to get to know trees intimately. I spend a lot of time walking around them trying to become acquainted with them. In fact, it’s as though I talk to them.”

~ Michael Kenna

Michael Kenna is a passionate artist who is captivated by a mission to preserve and document nature. His study of Kussharo Lake Tree exemplifies his devotion by paying tribute to the tree and preserving its form in these beautifully handcrafted silver gelatin prints. He often returned to Kussharo Lake to study how the tree adapted throughout the years to Japan's dynamic seasons. The time Kenna spent getting to know this tree gives us the pleasure of also becoming acquainted with the beauty and individual characteristics it possesses.
