“For me photography is not an intellectual process. It is a visual one. Whether we like it or not, we are involved in a sensual business.“
~ Marc Riboud
(1923-2016)
Riboud’s photograph at Highbury Stadium has always struck me as one of the greatest soccer images ever made. It is a perfect and electric instant frozen in time, capturing not just the players but the very heartbeat of the fans and the game itself. Images that truly convey the spirit and atmosphere of soccer are surprisingly rare, even among the great photographers, but this one does it effortlessly.
