#1845 - Robert Doisneau
“Life is short.Break the rules. Forgive quickly. Kiss slowly. Love truly. Laugh uncontrollably and never regret anything that makes you smile.”

~ Robert Doisneau
(1912-1994)

“Our friendship is lost in the darkness of time .We will no longer have his laugh, full of compassion , nor his hard hitting retorts, so funny and profound.Never told twice, each time a surprise. But his deep kindness, his love for all beings and for a simple life will always exist in his work.”

~ Henri Cartier Bresson on learning of his friend’s passing in 1994

A tribute to one great master to another. I am forever grateful for Henri and his dear wife Martine for introducing me to Robert. They were cut from the same cloth. Both deeply intelligent and empathetic human beings and both with a wry sense of humor. Robert was deeply shy in his early life. That is why he had a special rapport with children. This is one of his greatest and earliest of his children’s images.
