#1825 - Unidentified Photographer
"While there is perhaps a province in which the photograph can tell us nothing more than what we see with our own eyes, there is another in which it proves to us how little our eyes permit us to see.”

- Dorothea Lange

There is something quite alluring and mysterious about the absence of a face in an intimate portrait such as this one. We as humans naturally search for emotions in the eyes and facial expressions of others, this search we conduct often leads us to preconceived notions about what one may be feeling or thinking. Without these traits, or hints, to extract information from, what are we left with? We must now search elsewhere, we must not look for the human in photograph, but rather search for the humanity inside the image.

What can we see when what we are searching for isn’t there?
