“The Cinema is not a craft. It is an art. It does not mean teamwork. One is always alone on the set as before the blank page. And to be alone means to ask questions. And to make films means to answer them.”

~ Jean-Luc Godard
(1930-2022)

This is a great week for romantics. You have a couple of wonderful opportunities to revel in those feelings. First, go see Richard Linklater’s joyous ode to cinema, Nouvelle Vague, and then come see our current exhibition of the same name. Lose yourselves in that magical era of late 1950s–early 1960s Paris and forget the real world for a while.

Thank you again, Rick, for your beautiful film and for inspiring me to do this. The exhibition is dedicated to all the great photographers—Raymond Cauchetier, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Martine Franck, Sabine Weiss, Willy Ronis, Édouard Boubat, Robert Doisneau, Marc Riboud, Georges Dambier, Jean-Philippe Charbonnier, and others—I had the honor of meeting and working with. They were, and still are, the soul of the gallery.
