“I had to be brave. There was no other way.”
~ Dorothy Bohm
(1924-2023)
Dorothy lived an extraordinary life. Escaping Nazi Germany, she arrived alone in England when she was just 14 years old.
She picked up a camera when she was just sixteen years old and never stopped photographing until she was 94 years old.
I found her so inspiring to be around, and her extensive body of work in the humanist tradition holds its own with the many other great photographers who were her friends and colleagues.
She always went out of her way to help others with an unparalleled generosity of spirit.
She travelled extensively and always worked her gentle eye wherever she was. A small child lost in the madness of Coney Island — she was always alert and observing.
