“You have no right to arrive in a community just to take a few pictures and go. To do photography you must be integrated with the community and to live with them. A fantastic picture you do in a fraction of a second. But to arrive to do this picture you must put your life in theirs. To give your time and to receive it from the community that you come to see”
~ Sebastião Salgado
(1944-2025)
The World of Sebastião Salgado closes on September 1st. If you haven't stopped by yet, please come immerse yourself in the life's work of one of the greatest photographers in history. Salgado gave so much of his life to the craft and the communities of people he spent time with.
We were both a big part of each other's lives for close to 40 years. His passing is a huge loss for the photography community, as well as nations worldwide. The work he created is eternal and will move generations of people. Forever.
For an insight into his sometimes mischievous personality, I encourage you to watch this entertaining documentary, Pen, Brush and Camera (1998).
