"Nature is a great artist, the greatest. I’ve seen rocks and forms that put Matisse, Picasso and Brancusi to shame. You can’t beat Mother Nature."

~ Brett Weston

What makes a great photographer? I have an easy, short answer. They are someone who sees things that most of us never see. Brett was a great photographer.

He was discovering Oregon, searching for something different... this one, is one of his greatest. Abstractions happened by chance. This seems to be just lines on a piece of paper. But on closer examination one discovers these are reeds, natural elements reflected in a body of water. In the hands of a master they become something else. This is because Brett’s eye coupled with a technical prowess in the darkroom creates something unique, an image of haunting beauty.
