"Your eye must see a composition or an expression that life itself offers you and you must know with intuition when to click the camera"
~ Henri Cartier Bresson
(1908 - 2004)
Henri first came to America in the mid 1930’s. This began a long and fruitful relationship with a country which he visited repeatably and explored thoroughly through the decades up to the 1980’s. He took photos both to satisfy his own constant curiosity and on assignment for Magnum Photo Agency of which he was one of the founders. His eye for composition and for the unexpected in life resulted in my opinion of some of his greatest images. This body of work has always been under the radar and I was amazed when I came across it, that he had never made any signed prints of this great and heartfelt image. He graciously agreed to make three prints for me of this image and this one has now re entered my life. It is both tender and revealing and unforgettable.
