#1692 - Louis Stettner
“The photographs that remain strong and alive seem to be when your vision and reality are so inexorably wedded together it is impossible to separate them”Louis Stettner (1922 - 2016)

The distinguished photography festival in Arles is about to begin, and one of this year’s highlights is a major exhibition dedicated to one of my all-time favourite photographers: The World of Louis Stettner.

I was fortunate to enjoy a wonderful and stimulating relationship with Louis while he was alive. We were cut from the same cloth—often challenging and opinionated, yet he had a deeply loving heart beneath his gruff exterior. He felt like a long-lost brother or father from another country. If real life keeps you from visiting the festival this year, just take a moment to immerse yourself in his exquisite images and feel his love of life run through you. It’s heartening to see his extraordinary body of work finally receiving the recognition it has always deserved.
