#1708 - Henry Wessel
“The world is filled with incredible things. So I’m happy to just let my eye be caught by something. If something catches my eye that’s enough reason to take the picture.”
~
Henry Wessel
(1942 - 2018)

I suppose if you or I had been driving through Arizona sometime in the 1970's, we might have seen the same sunlit streets or lone signs in the desert. But I doubt we would have stopped to photograph them, let alone with the quiet precision and depth that Henry Wessel did.

Wessel had a rare gift: the ability to see the extraordinary in the ordinary. With his Leica 35mm in hand, he spent four decades capturing those in-between moments most of us overlook. He didn’t go out searching for grand narratives, he simply followed his eye, and that was always enough.
