“Memory is very important, the memory of each photo taken, flowing at the same speed as the event. During the work, you have to be sure that you haven’t left any holes, that you’ve captured everything, because afterwards it will be too late.”
~ Henri Cartier-Bresson
My friend and a fellow collector, John Randolph recently drew my attention to All Souls Day. It is a meaningful day for reflection on life, mortality, and the bonds we share beyond physical presence. John was so kind to offer these words on the occasion and what it means to him..
"In the Christian calendar there is a very special day in early November. The day in question is called All Souls Day or Día de los Muertos. The purpose of it is to remember “the souls of the faithful departed". It is one of those spiritual occasions that embraces everyone. We all share memories of people who during our lives have been a very special presence and there is a void at their passing. So this All Soul’s Day maybe take some time to quietly reflect on how lucky we are to have those memories and no matter what happens they will always be with us. I have asked Peter to use the power of photography to give everyone an image so you can find a moment of peace and reflection and remember those loved ones who are sadly no longer with us. Wherever you are and most importantly of all; whoever you are remembering, I wish you peace." ~ John Randolph
Thank you, John, for these beautiful and comforting words.
