#1253 - Pentti Sammallahti

"Why must art be static? You look at an abstraction, sculptured or painted, an entirely exciting arrangement of planes, spheres, nuclei, entirely without meaning. It would be perfect, but it is always still. The next step in sculpture is motion."

~ Alexander Calder

Our dear friend Pentti is a wonderful genius of a photographer. In this photograph he has inverted Calder's logic and made his sculpture static once more, but with a little twist, the couple in the corner, and small birds on the points have humanized the composition. A moment composed with great respect for Calder and an homage to Pentti's own search for what Henri Cartier-Bresson dubbed the "decisive moment". It is always so exciting to see the results of artists inspired and by other artists.
