“W. Eugene Smith’s photo essays taught me that a photograph could not only communicate emotion, but could also save the human condition”

~ Bruce Davidson

At 90 years old now Bruce has the time to reflect back on a long and productive career. What is wonderful about collecting photographs is that one is always making discoveries. Hence the joy of discovering this image. It stopped me in my tracks when I recently saw it. Just when I thought I had seen everything that this great American photographer had produced, there it was. I think it is one of the most powerful photographs I have ever seen. Layers upon layers of meaning and emotion. Totally haunting.
