Shirley Baker, a pioneering British street photograph went out into the streets of her native Manchester and Salford taking her much heralded photographs of children at play. She realized that she had to capture her pictures of a fast disappearing way of life caused by intense urban redevelopment which was not necessarily for the better as it saw the disintegration of formerly close knit communities. We are all so fortunate that she did this. This image was obviously one of her favourites as she put it on the cover of her first book published in 1989, “Street Photographs”. Full of life and heart.
