#912 - Judy Dater

“The older I get the one thing I can trust in myself more than anything else is the way I feel about something. When I photograph, I try to be as aware of my feelings as I can be to somehow try and get them out of me and onto the film in terms of the way I am responding or seeing the world”

~ Judy Dater

Judy’s celebrated image was taken during an Ansel Adams workshop in Yosemite where the nonagenarian photographer and Judy were both teaching. Twinka, the daughter of the great painter Wayne Thiebaud was the model working there. It is the classic image of youth and age and all those emotions it never fails to illicit almost 50 years later from viewers.
