#2085 - Louise Dahl-Wolfe

Louise, a longtime fashion photographer for Harper’s Bazaar, helped refine the look of fashion. She was among the earliest photographers to shoot models in natural light, showing them as relaxed, modern, and liberated women. She invented the environmental fashion photograph and showed women living life rather than posing on a pedestal.
This is one of her greatest images, almost a play on life—a photographer photographing a model playing a photographer.
Louise was hugely respected.
Richard Avedon said it all:
“She was the bar we all measured ourselves against.”
