It’s not often I see a single image that drives me to seek out and meet the creator behind it.
Doisneau was not afraid to get close to his subjects, but there is something particularly moving about the photographs in which he kept his distance. A couple beneath the moonlight, another dancing together in the street at night – the space around them seems to make their small gestures feel all the more intimate.
There is a tenderness in that distance, and an emotion that might have disappeared had Doisneau stepped any closer.
The exhibition will be on view from September 12, 2026 through January 9, 2027.
Opening Reception: September 12, 3–6pm
