Vanity Fair commissioned the celebrated photographer George Hoyningen Huene to photograph the great Josephine Baker who was the sensation of Paris where they both lived.
It’s a great example of his talent for portraiture, It’s minimalist but it capture’s Baker’s ebullient personality and the visual style of the Jazz Age and European Modernism.
It was captured at the height of Baker’s fame following her breakthrough in Paris with “La Revue Negre”
Enjoy!
