Robert collaborated with the great French writer Blaise Cendrars on the magnificent book La Banlieue de Paris ("Paris's Suburbs"), which first came out in 1949.
Here he is in the suburb of Montrouge. He composes a gentle narrative filled with everyday characters, in this case a group of middle-aged working-class men gathered for a game of billiards. It's a community.
