Flor Garduño has been part of my life for so many years that it is impossible to separate the friendship from the photographs. We were the first gallery to represent her, and over the decades our journeys have unfolded alongside one another. Whenever we meet, the conversation effortlessly drifts between shared memories, stories, laughter, and the occasional tear. Time has passed, but the bond—and the work—remain as powerful as ever.
This photograph embodies everything I admire about Flor's vision. It portrays an itinerant Bolivian musician making his way through the countryside, traveling from village to village to play at weddings, funerals, and local celebrations, carrying all of his worldly possessions with him. There is a quiet dignity, grace, and humanity in the image that lingers long after you have looked away.
And then there is the title—one of the most poetic and unforgettable I have ever encountered. It deepens the mystery, enriches the story, and reminds us that the finest photographs continue to reveal themselves over a lifetime.
