“My music is the spiritual expression of what I am—my faith, my knowledge, my being…
When you begin to see the possibilities of music, your desire is to do something really good for people, to help humanity free itself from its hang-ups—I want to speak to their souls.”

~ John Coltrane

1926 was a year in which many great musicians were born. We just celebrated Miles Davis, and now it is John Coltrane’s turn.
A pioneer of free jazz and the avant-garde, he was one of the towering musical figures of the 20th century. A true pioneer and leader, he broke new ground throughout his career.
He moved through the world with great intensity, always in service of the sound. This is why he remains such a hero to generations of musicians to this day.
Music was not only what he did, but who he was, and he truly felt an obligation to share the gifts he had been given with as wide an audience as possible.
