Whenever I come across a photograph by Pentti Sammallahti, I feel that familiar sense of discovery. There is always something I hadn't noticed at first—a small gesture or a shift in the light. It is these little surprises that keep drawing me back.
Pentti has a wonderful way of reminding us that photography is really about paying attention. His pictures ask nothing of us except that we slow down and look. The more time you spend with them, the more they quietly reveal. That is the gift of a great photograph. All we have to do is be present enough to recognize it.
