"I create my images based upon stories and memories, in which I try to visualize the bond between man, spirit and nature. I love to use the contrast between light and dark and the twilight zone between them."

~ Ilona Langbroek

For Ilona Langbroek, her images represent a deeply personal odyssey of familial history rooted in the former Dutch East Indies, intertwined with the Netherlands colonial legacy. Using metaphor and allegory, we are witnesses to each beautiful moment she creates. Each photograph recalling the Dutch Golden Age masters, such as Vermeer, Rembrandt, and Caravaggio with Ilona's own special magic mixed in.
