#908 - Herman leonard

“Today people talk a lot about “reading” a photograph. That means getting it, understanding what it’s all about. But man, when it comes to Herman Leonard, I think a better word is “listen”. You need to “listen” to Herman's pictures. They are full of music and you can hear it”

~ Quincy Jones
(Quoted in the book “Listen: Herman Leonard and his World of Jazz”- 21st Editions)

Today would have been Herman Leonard’s 100th Birthday. He was one of the most elegant and charming people I have ever met and I miss him. But his extraordinary images remain and they will always move us and act as a testament to America’s unique and most powerful art form, Jazz. I know he is jamming up there with all the greats on this special day.
