“Once the amateur’s naive approach and humble willingness to learn fades away, the creative spirit of good photography dies with it. Every professional should remain always in his or her heart an amateur”~ Alfred Eisenstaedt Eisenstaedt was one of the all time greats. He was remarkably humble considering his illustrious career as one of the founding photographers of Life Magazine. He had enormous energy and charm right up to the end of his life and one could understand why everyone relaxed before his camera and revealed themselves. He had a life long love of dance and produced some of the most beautiful and elegant images ever of that art form. The world of ballet evokes glamour but here he is behind the scenes like Degas. The endless applause and curtain calls and flowers are yet to come but here he captures the hard work and dedication and camaraderie in a simple rehearsal room atop the Grand Opera de Paris. Pure magic.Courtesy of Peter Fetterman Gallery
