“I intend to live forever or die trying.”~ Groucho Marx Ted Allan got his start in his teens taking pictures of aspiring actors in a dime store on Hollywood Boulevard and went on to build a reputation in the entertainment industry that earned him the nickname “Rembrandt” at MGM.“A Day at The Races” is one of my favorite Marx Brothers movies. Just the name of the character Groucho played in the film, Dr. Hugo Z. Hackenbush puts a smile on my face. During the production of the film, Irving Thalberg who had brought the Marx Bros to MGM suddenly died in Sept 1936 of pneumonia at the young age of 37 years old. Thalberg’s death left the Marx Bros without a champion at MGM and the studio never gave the same level of care and attention to the team they had received under Thalberg.
