In the second gallery, we are pleased to present the first Los Angeles exhibition of photographs by Jim Krantz. If Krantz’s work looks familiar, it is not surprising. Krantz, had been documenting the cinematic vistas of the American West for 20 years and after his widely published images for Marlboro caught the eye of conceptual artist, Richard Prince, several were “appropriated” into Prince’s well known “Cowboy” series.
The photographs on view in this show, all Krantz’s personal work, blend his technical skill with an emotive resonance as they balance the cowboys and horses of the West with the vastness of the western American landscape. While Krantz’s work covers all manner of photographic genres his focus and deep connection to The West remain a constant.
