Glinn, Burt

Burt Glinn first became known for his spectacular color coverages of the South Seas, Japan, Russia, Mexico and California, each of which was published as a complete issue of, "Holiday Magazine." As an undergraduate he won the Dana Reed Award from Harvard College. Subsequently, he received the Matthew Brady Award as the Magazine Photographer of th year from the University of Missouri and the Encyclopedia Britannica; the Award for the Best Book of Photographic Reporting from Abroad from the Overseas Press Club; the Gold Medal for the Best Print Ad of the Year from the Art Directors Club of New York for his Foster Grant Sun Glasses ads; and the Gold Medal for the Best Annual Report of the year from Financial World for the Warner Communications Annual Report. Glinn was one of the original contributing editors to "New York magazine." He is a past president of the American Society of the Media Photographers. A member of the Magnum Photographic Co-operative since the beginning of his career in 1952; he has served at different times as its president and chairman of the board. Born in Pittsburgh in 1925, Glinn lives in East Hampton full-time with his wife, Elena Anatasia Prohaska and with frequent visits from their twenty-four year old son, Samuel Pierson Glinn.
