| Leipzig, Arthur |
Leipzig, who resides on Long Island, studied photography at the Photo League in 1942. Early in his career, Leipzig completed a series of photographs on children's games which garnered him attention from various periodicals. As a result, Leipzig became a freelance photographer, submitting work to the New York Times, Look and Parade. He later began teaching at Long Island University, where he is Professor Emeritus. Leipzig's photographs are in the tradition of the street photographer whose purpose was to capture urban life. In particular, Leipzig created a body of work that focused on people's activities in New York City from the 1940's to the 60's. This work is collected together in his book Growing Up in New York (1995). Main Collection < Back to the Artists List |
