| Capa, Robert |
The Peter Fetterman Gallery is very pleased to represent the work of Robert Capa. One of the century's greatest photographers, Capa was first recognized for photographing the Spanish Civil War. One of the great poets of the camera, his genius was not only as a documentarian of the highest caliber, whose photographs from five wars including the siege of Madrid, the Allied landings on D-Day, and the Japanese invasion in China remain the definitive visual record, but who also had an unfailing eye for graphic impact that created images which transcend the specifics of history. Much as Capa deserves to this day the title of "Greatest War Photographer in the World" his remarkable range as a photographer includes images that capture with wit and warmth the joys of peace. In 1954, on assignment for Life magazine, Capa went to Vietnam where he was killed by stepping on a land mine. Main Collection < Back to the Artists List |
